I find spring and fall to be interesting times of the year. They're a middle ground; a combination of every weather imaginable: hot, cold, rain, snow. They're both transitional times. In the fall we move from sandals and sundresses to boots and sweaters. Then in the spring we trade our sweaters for the same sundresses.  The thing I have found to be most curious is how no one seems to talk about just how similar these two season are style wise. With both season lasting about three months, we spend more time transitioning between winter and summer, then we actually do in the heat or the col.  Despite their similarities, we are expect to have separate wardrobes for both seasons.

My red corduroy skirt, perfect for a fall day. I purchased it last October and wore it constantly in the fall. I have styled it with boots, tights, chambray shirts, and sweaters. I recently pulled it out of my closet and became sad at the thought of not wearing this for another 6 months. The color is deep and the fabric is heavy; not up to the normal spring standards. But I decided I didn't want to ignore this skirt. In a time where jean skirts, another heavy fabric, have come back in style, I believed this will work.

I started with a complimentary color for the deep, warm red. I decided that blush (a spring stable) would pair nicely with the burgundy. I brought this out in my shoes and accessories, with additional touches of silver and gold. Then one of my favorite white tees, partially tucked in for a relaxed look. Finally, my jean jacket, an item I wear all year round.

After the success of this outfit, I am determined to keep this up. Hopefully, this is help me expand my outfit choices, while keeping my shopping this spring to a minimum.

If read my blog regularly, you are no stranger to my incredible distaste for the amount of rain we have been having Kansas City recently. The rain has driven my wardrobe to hoodies, tennis shoes, just overall drab clothes to keep myself warm and dry. So I have been so unbelievable grateful for the sunshine we've had for the last few days.

When it comes to spring fashion, my favorite pairings are dainty tops with jeans. I absolutely love that little, thin strapped tops are popular this year because that style has always been a favorite of mine. Now I have the excuse to buy so many this spring and summer! First up, this gorgeous satin and lace top. It's the absolute perfect blush pink, but it also comes in black. This top paired with my ripped Levi's and I just feel so beautiful, ready to take on the day. I added my leopard ballet flats for some extra color and texture and my leather jacket for when the wind picks up. I mean, it's Kansas City in the spring; it's always windy.

My Favorite Beauty Products (under $20!)

Every girl has her favorite beauty products; but it can take a long time to find the perfect products. I know for myself, it took years to find the perfect products for my skin, hair, and make-up. In those years, I have tried and tested products from multiple brands with varying price ranges. When I was younger I used to think the more expensive the product, the better it must be. But oh, was I wrong! In recent years, I've truly learned there are quality products are very affordable prices. So I have rounded-up my 9 favorite beauty products, all under $20!

  • Redken Thermal Protecting Spray - $13.62 My hairstylist recommended this product to me nearly a year ago. Now I refuse to put any heat near my hair without it. I have definitely noticed a difference in my hair. There has been so much less breakage which is so important to me because I curl my hair everyday.
  • Formula 10.0.6 Deep Down Detox Mud Mask - $6.99 This is a more recent find of mine, but it has already made a huge difference on my skin. It's a miracle worker. I apply this mask 2-3 times a week. It amazes me how quickly my acne has disappeared!
  • Clean and Clear Deep Cleaning Toner - $5.99 This is definitely the product I have been using for the longest amount of time. I pour a few drops on a cotton ball and rub it into my whole face. It picks up left over oil after I wash my face, which is important to me because I have very oily skin.
  • Dove Advance Care Skin Renew - $4.89 In my earlier 20s, I experienced some slight discoloration in my under arms. I began researching remedies. There were several, one of which was using color correcting deodorant. Not only did this deodorant bring my skin back to normal, but its truly the best deodorant I have ever used.
  • Sally Hansen Miracle Cure Strengthener - $6.99 I naturally have thick nails, but they're not the strongest. Layers can peel off easily, which destroy my nails, sometimes forcing me to cut them short. But this nail strengthener has helped my nails stay stronger. Since I almost always have my nails painted, I use it as a base coat.
  • Curel Ultra Healing Lotion - $7.99 During college, my skin went through a very dry spell. It was painful and itchy and not attractive at all. Once I was able to heal my skin, I started to apply this lotion everyday, twice a day. I am very diligent about it, and have even mentioned before that I always carry lotion with me. But the benefit is I haven't had a problem with my skin since I started using this lotion.
  • Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin - $8.99 My favorite thing about this foundation is the coverage. It evens out my whole face to a beautiful, natural tone. I received this product from Influenster, and I'll admit I was nervous to try it. I am very loyal to the brands I use, and hadn't used any Maybelline products before. But I am so happy I tried this because I love it! It was a great Influenster VoxBox!
  • CoverGirl Outlast All Day Lipcolor -  $7.99 I mentioned this liquid lipstick in my What's In My Bag post, but I am completely obsessed with it! I cannot recommend this product enough! This product has given me the best, longlasting lip coverage I have ever seen. It's seriously the best!
  • Essence Make Me Brow - $2.99 The first time I heard about this product was in an EleventhGorgeous video. In this video they found the Essence Make Me Brown was a dupe of the Benefit Gimme Brow. The products work almost identically with one major difference. Essence is 1/8 of the price! This product fills in your brows and makes shaping them super easy.
  • If you have any favorite beauty products of your own I'd love to hear about them!

    What's In My Bag?

    whats_in_my_bag_2.jpg

I'm always fascinated by what others girls have stashed in their purses, so today I am sharing my own "What's In My Bag?". Whats_in_my_bag_2b

    1.  My Wallet. I love this wallet! I just got it a few weeks ago and it is the best. I got it at Charming Charlie. The interior has so many slots for cards, money, and receipts and an interior pouch for coins. My favorite part about this wallet is my phone fits perfectly in the front flap! I have gotten so many compliments on this wallet. One of the best parts of this wallet is the price!

      Whats_in_my_bag_3

    2. Hand Sanitizer.
    3. Lotion. I have this weird fear that I am going to get an itch on the leg and not have lotion to help. The result became, me always carrying lotion.
    4. Compact Mirror.
    5. Cover-up.
    6. My iPhone. When it's not in my purse, it's glued to my hand!
    7. Gum. I try to always have gum on me. This particular one is flavored Rainbow Ice. I was just standing in the check-out line at Target and was so intrigued by the name of the flavor, I had to buy it! It's good too. Tastes like an icey rainbow. :P
    8. Sunglasses Case. I found having a sunglasses case to be a lifesaver since I am the queen of breaking sunglasses! I've stepped on them, sat on them, and scratched them to no end.
    9. Sunglasses. I've noticed cat-eye sunglasses becoming so popular lately. These are from Lulu's and they are so fabulous!
    10. My portable makeup/lipstick/toiletries bag. The amount of things I cramp into this little bag is endless!

      Whats_in_my_bag_1

    11. Lipsticks. I always, always always, have lipstick in this bag. I can have anywhere from one to 5 different tubes of lipstick in that bag at a time. Weird? Not to me! My mom is the same way! I have my go-to lipstick: CoverGirl Outlast All-Day LipColor in Lingering Spice 619Lingering Spice 619. I cannot stress enough how amazing this color is! It's a beautiful, natural lipcolor that truly lasts all day! I also have Eternal Flame 521 for those time when I need a little extra flair!
    12. Band-Aids. Every girl should always have at least one in her purse
    13. Nail File.
    14. Cold Medicine.
    15. Clean and Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets. I cannot recommend these sheets enough. They are great, especially for the summer, to just dab the extra oil off my face in the late afternoon. Bonus: it doesn't take off my make up!

Finally, the bag! I've had this Kate Spade bag for a year now and it has proved to be a wonderful summer purse! The color is a beautiful soft, cream that goes with everything. It has three separate compartments inside of the bag, plus and extra small pocket for easy phone access. It fits perfectly on my shoulder, in the crook of my arm, and in my hand.

Unfortunately, this bag is no longer available, but you can find similar here, here, and here.

    5 Nail Colors for Summer

I love painting my own nails. I find it to be very relaxing. The entire process, including dry time, tends to run a little over an hour. I use this time solely to myself. It's great to catch up on a TV show and have my husband take care of the dog. One of my favorite parts of summer is painting my nails fun, bright colors. So below are some of my top choices for this summer season!

    Summer_Nails

White On | Sally Hansen XtremeWear It may only be me, but I believe a white nail can look bright. I only wear white nails in the summer, which is just a personal preference. White nails can help balance a bright, multicolored summer outfit.

World Wide Red | Sally Hansen Miracle Gel I love bright coral on my nails for the summertime. Not only does the color just scream summer, but it always makes me look tanner. I don't know how or why, but it works with every bright coral I've bought. So coral is always a go-to shade of mine!

Stranger Tides | O.P.I. Normally, I stay away from green nail polish. It’s typically not a color I like to see on my nails. But as soon as I saw this pistachio color, I wanted it. It is a much softer green and it has a bit of a matte look to it.

Lapiz of Luxury | Essie My purple obsession has seemed to increase this summer, and while going through my nail polish collection I realized I didn't have lilac. I knew Essie would have the perfect shade for me! I chose this particular shade because I wanted something that would stand out, in a good way. This shade will definitely do that.

Toasted Almond | CoverGirl This shade is a little darker than I normally go in the summer, but I really wanted a coffee-colored nail polish! Similar to the white, it can act as a balance to your bight summer wardrobe. I also like it because it's a bit different from the normal gray/black dark nail that are always so popular.

What are some of your favorite colors to wear for summer? I don't just limit my palette to five! I'd love to hear you suggestions!
